What Is a Juvederm® Dentist?
A Juvederm dentist is someone who uses this hydraulic acid-based dermal filler to help people combat the effects of aging. It has a gel-like, smooth consistency and it adds volume to areas it is injected.
Procedures commonly performed by a Juvederm dentist
There are a few different types of Juvederm, and each is used for a specific purpose. They include:
- Juvederm Vollure XC and Juvederm XC can be used to improve a patient's skin elasticity and fill out wrinkles and lines that develop around the mouth
- Juvederm Voluma XC is used to add volume to a patient's features like the cheeks
- Juvederm Volbella XC and Ultra XC are used as a non-surgical way to add volume to a patient's lips
What to expect when getting treatment from a Juvederm dentist
The dentist will go over the patient's cosmetic goals with them prior to the treatment. Given the non-invasive nature of Juvederm treatments, the patient can get the injections right after the consultation. The procedure does not require much preparation from the patient.
Patients should avoid taking medication like ibuprofen and aspirin prior to their appointments. They should also refrain from smoking tobacco products and drinking leading up to their treatments. Avoiding such things helps to prevent bruising. Patients should inform the dentist about any allergies they have.
The parts of the body that are typically targeted for Juvederm treatment include:
- The mouth and nose area
- The cheeks
- The lips
How Juvederm works
As we mentioned earlier, Juvederm works by adding volume to a person's facial tissue. The active ingredient in it is hyaluronic acid. This is a safe and natural acid that is found in the body. It stimulates the production of collagen – which is the connective tissue that keeps skin tight.
As a person gets older, their natural production of collagen goes down. This leads to the appearance of wrinkles and saggy skin.
During treatment, the dentist will mark the areas that will be worked on with a pen. These areas are then injected with Juvederm. The area will be gently massaged after the injection to make sure the product is distributed evenly and to reduce the risk of inflammation. The entire process takes about 15 minutes to one hour depending on the area being treated.
All Juvederm injections come with a trace amount of lidocaine, which minimizes the discomfort experienced by the patient during the treatment.
Recovering after treatment with a Juvederm dentist
There is not much of a recovery period after getting Juvederm treatments, but patients are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, strenuous activity, consuming alcohol, smoking and wearing makeup for at least the first 24 hours after the treatment.
Many patients enjoy noticeable results right after their treatment or when any inflammation that occurs goes down. The results of Juvederm treatments can last anywhere between six months to two years.
